Changes in dues, reshuffling of the HOA board, and ballot measures to amend governing documents or approve projects all carry the potential for charged emotions and political interest. On top of all that, there are the basic logistics of producing and sending out mailers to homeowners. In order to alleviate some of the headache that comes with elections, online voting is gaining popularity, and rules surrounding online election requirements are being detailed in state legislatures around the country.
As with so many other activities, HOA elections are moving online. eUnify offers an eVoting module, complete with secure login access and options for setting quorum, eligibility, and proxy voting requirements. One vote is allowed for each lot/unit, and votes can be weighted by percent ownership for condo communities. Board members will see results as a whole, but will not see how any individual votes in a given election. In-person voting at annual meetings can be facilitated using uManage and the eUnify Resident Portal to manage meeting processes for registration, proxy voting, and amended votes by homeowners in person.
Board members and managers will be able to see metrics on the election, whether or not quorum has been met on votes for specific measures or candidates. Live metrics are visible to admin users in the Resident Portal so that managers and board members can see live results as the election is active. As with the published, final results, this view shows who voted and running tallies of votes for specific items, but no how individuals voted.
eUnify’s Resident Portal is currently undergoing an exciting overhaul, which will include a mobile application for Android and Apple devices. Homeowners will be reminded of elections, will be able to vote in elections from their smartphones, and will get results via push notification.
